Here’s a 10-minute sales challenge that gets results
How many sales channels did you use last week?
Most people will come up with three as their answer. They will have used:
- Phone
- Face-to-face meetings
Unfortunately, answering three (or less) is a fail! That’s simply not enough variety to engage with today’s buyers.
It’s time to mix up your communication!
In the last two weeks I have used the following for 1-2-1 communication with prospects:
- Phone
- Face-to-face meetings
- SMS/texting
- Skype video
- Skype messaging
- LinkedIn messaging
- Twitter messaging
- Facebook messaging
- Post
Mixing up your e-mail creates pattern interrupt (and that’s a good thing!)
Buyers are used to receiving phone and e-mail contact. They are not yet so used to sales people contacting them by other channels. They are much more likely to respond to channels that they are not so used to. You’ll improve your number of worthwhile conversations with your prospects.

So what’s the 10-minute sales challenge?
Use three new sales channels in the next 10 minutes. Reach out to three of your prospects via a route that you haven’t used before. You may be surprised at the results.
Make sure you build these new communication channels into your routines. You should become accustomed to using them regularly. I always used a pattern interrupt communication channel if a prospect is not coming back to me on a traditional channel.
Next time I ask how many sales channels you used last week, make sure you come back with a high number!
