The five pillars of sales and marketing – do you use them all?
More than ever it is important to cover sales and marketing from a wide range of bases
Focussing on one single strategy is not enough. To maintain and grow business requires work in a number of areas. I find it useful to break down my sales and marketing into five areas.
Here are the five pillars of sales and marketing
Regular sales activities
It is vital to have a number of regular activities that you carry out to maintain your existing client base as well as win new clients. These can be simple tactics such as following up with lapsed customers or checking in with regularly with your clients and send them the right resources.
Winning new clients
How will you win new business? How will you stand out from the competition? One of the best ways right now is to use direct mail. However, it. Is important to be laser focused on the right type of client for you.
Social media is a constantly changing landscape. One of my favourite tactics right now for smaller businesses is to use Facebook local groups. Meanwhile, on LinkedIn, if you want to gain great exposure it is worth combining a poll with the right hashtags.
Website and newsletter strategies
Many printing companies need to do a lot of work on their websites! One of the best ways to improve a website is to create different landing pages for different types of customer. Many people are also not making enough of their e-mail marketing: I know exactly who has clicked through on any campaign I send. I can then choose to follow up personally or to send an automated response depending on the action they take.
Planning and goal setting
We also need to spend time on ourselves. I have improved my productivity hugely with a couple of quick strategies. One of these is write down three simple daily goals.
Isn’t this an awful lot of work?
It doesn’t have to be. You can achieve results by mixing up these pillars across just a few hours a week.
