What will the printing industry look like in ten years’ time?
Here’s one prediction about the printing industry that I’m pretty sure about
In ten years’ time the print industry will still be here. It will still be strong and vibrant. There will still be a need for print.
I cannot see how it is possible for the majority of businesses to survive without print. Print is present in so many spaces: on all our packaging, in all the buildings we enter and even on the clothes we wear. I don’t see this changing. I’m sure some print sectors will grow and others will struggle. But I still see plenty of people from all generations liking and wanting print.
But that doesn’t mean our industry will look the same
On the contrary, personally I see some pretty big changes up ahead. I feel it would be useful to share some of these with you. Amongst other things I’m predicting:
• Three deaths
• The rise of three trends that have already started
• One thing that won’t change…
Why is it important to think about these predictions?
Some of my predictions will be right and some will be wrong. But we should all be thinking about how our industry will evolve. We need to think about how we develop and adapt our businesses. I think there are going to be some pretty big changes. Those printing companies that choose to carry on with a business as normal approach are going to struggle.
What are your predictions for the future?
Please send them to me. I’ll share them at the end of this series. And we can all see who was right in ten years’ time. Because, despite the changes that are ahead, I firmly believe that our industry will be strong and relevant whatever the future brings.
